Frontier engineering

Engineering where standard solutions end

We build research and production equipment for nuclear fusion and energy research to customer specification — from single parts through automated machines to complete, mobile laboratories. Requirement analysis, engineering, manufacturing and programming come from one house. Delivered turnkey.

Scope

From a single part to a complete laboratory

Most of what we build does not exist as a catalogue item. It is defined by a process, a space, a safety case and a budget — and it has to work on the first day it arrives.

The machine as one unit

Pneumatic valve island inside a machine: every station labelled, tubing and sensor cables routed and tied

Process · panel · enclosure

Built, wired and commissioned before it ships

Gas panel, instrumentation, electrical cabinet, safety circuit and enclosure are assembled and tested as one unit. What arrives on your site is a working process, not a crate of parts — and the interfaces to your building are defined before anything is manufactured.

  • All metal sealed gas path, tritium compatible throughout
  • Aluminium frame with panelling, access doors and interlocks
  • Emergency stop and safety circuit as part of the design
  • Factory acceptance test before delivery

Control and operation

P&ID · PLC · HMI

Your process diagram becomes the operator screen

We draw the P&ID with you, program the PLC against it and build the operator interface from the same diagram — so the screen shows the plant as the engineers think about it. Interlocks, permissives and alarm handling are specified together with the process, not added afterwards.

  • Custom P&ID and custom HMI screens
  • Interlock and permissive logic, documented
  • Traceable data logging, local or to your own system
  • Remote diagnostics on request

Method

Our approach

Five steps, each one closed before the next one starts. You know at every point what is decided and what is still open.

1 · Requirement analysis
  • Process, quantities, pressures
  • Safety case and regulations
  • Site, interfaces, logistics
2 · Engineering
  • P&ID and layout
  • Mechanical design
  • Risk assessment, ATEX where needed
3 · Manufacturing
  • Machined and additive parts
  • Gas path assembly
  • Electrical cabinet build
4 · Programming
  • PLC and interlocks
  • HMI from your P&ID
  • Data interfaces
5 · Turnkey delivery
  • Factory acceptance test
  • Installation and start-up
  • Documentation and training

Capabilities

What we bring to the table

Engineering disciplines we cover in house. Where we cannot cover something ourselves, we work with long-standing, internationally recognised partners.

Nuclear engineering and services

Tritium handling, tritium analytics, radiation safety and transport, getter bed design, product design, disposal processes and licensing support.

Design

SolidWorks and AutoDesk for mechanical design, LabVIEW for measurement and control.

Functional safety

Process risk assessment, ATEX design, preparation and installation.

Machine building & automation

From the frame and the gas path to the PLC program and the operator interface.

Component testing

Leak testing, pressure testing and qualification against international standards.

Parts manufacturing

Machined and additively manufactured components from our own production.
